LIBRARY MOSAICS/COLT ANNUAL AWARDS
2000 OUTSTANDING SUPPORT STAFF OF THE YEAR AWARD
Paulette Feld
The recipient of Library Mosaics' and the Council on Library/Media Technicians' 2000 award for Outstanding Support Staff is Paulette Feld, Management Information Technician 2, at the Forrest R. Polk Library, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The award is presented annually for noteworthy service by a library support staff member.
Ms. Feld has made significant contrubutions to the continuing growth and development of library support staff around the country through active involvement on the local, state and national levels. She served as President Elect, President, and now Past President of the Support Staff Interests Round Table (SSIRT) of the American Library Association. She has been a contributor, and a founding Editorial Board member, for Associates: The Electronic Library Support Staff Journal. She was also the 1999 winner of the libsup-l Poster of the Year Award.
Ms. Feld has served in several capacities in the Wisconsin Library Association Support Staff Section. She was on the Conference Planning Committee in 1992 and 1993. She was elected Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect in 1994, and served as Chair in 1995. She has broken new ground for support staff in Wisconsin by serving as the first support staff to Chair the Wisconsin Library Association Membership Committee from 1997 to present. Ms. Feld has also had a long involvement with the union to which the library staff at her institution can belong. She has served as Vice President and President of her Local 579, and has been on the AFSCME Council Executive Board for the past three years. For her efforts in promoting and organizing support staff, she has been presented with the 2000 Support Staff Award.
Paulette Feld will be featured in the May/June issue of Library Mosaics and will be recognized at the annual banquet of the Council on Library/Media Technicians conference, Chicago, Illinois, July 7, 2000. She will also receive a cash prize and a plaque describing her acheivements.

Linda Slusar
The recipient of Library Mosaics' and the Council on Library/Media Technicians' 2000 award for Outstanding Supporter of Support Staff is Linda Slusar, Coordinator of the Library Technical Assistant Program, College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois. The award is presented annually for outstanding service to library support staff.Ms. Slusar was selected for her dedicated work on behalf of support staff. As Coordinator of the LTA Program, she has been an innovator in developing one of the outstanding support staff programs in the country and in developing outreach and alternate delivery for the program. The program has served as a model for others. She has played a key role in the development of the teleconference series Soaring to Excellence. This program has been viewed by thousands of library personnel nationwide. The program is a model for staff development programs on a national scale. The series has been so successful that it has become the first support staff modular program accepted for distribution by American Library Association Editions.
Ms. Slusar has also been the developer of the Library Technical Assistant Illinois Program. This program reaches hundreds of community libraries throughout Illinois and allows staff in these libraries to increase and improve their skills through electronically accessible certificate and degree programs via a statewide system of closed-circuit television. This program offers a unique model for statewide staff development for library support staff. She has contributed nationally as a speaker and writer promoting library support staff and the development and recognition fo the role of support staff. For her efforts in supporting and encouraging support staff, she has been presented with the 2000 Outstanding Supporter of Support Staff award.
