Library Mosaics and the Council on Library/Media Technicians
are proud to announce the winners of
the 1998 Support Staff and Supporter
of Support Staff Awards.
1998 OUTSTANDING SUPPORT STAFF OF THE YEAR
AWARD
The winner of Library Mosaics' and the Council on Library/Media Technicians 1998 award for Outstanding Support Staff is Linda Owen of the Technical Services/Cataloging Department, University of California, Riverside. The award is presented annually for noteworthy service by a library support staff member.
Ms. Owen is the immediate past president of COLT, the Council on Library /Media Technicians. She is also a member of the American Library Association, the California Library Association and Toastmasters International. She has been published in Library Trends, Library Mosaics, Nexus/Net Nexus and Associates, writing on library support staff and their role in the library profession. In addition, she has served on several task forces/committees within the American Library Association.
She has made many presentations to many organizations including the California Library Association, the Greater San Diego Paraprofessional Development Workshop, and the Council on Library/Media Technicians. She has also twice been a featured speaker at the Australian Library Technicians' conferences.
For her efforts in promoting and organizing support staff, she has been presented with the 1998 Outstanding Support Staff Award.
Linda Owen will be featured in the May/June issue of Library
Mosaics and will be recognized at
the annual banquet of the Council on Library/Media Technicians Conference, Washington, D.C.,
June 24-27, 1998. She will receive a cash prize and a plaque describing her achievements.
1998 OUTSTANDING SUPPORTER OF SUPPORT STAFF AWARD
The winner of Library Mosaics' and the Council on Library/Media Technicians' 1998 award for Outstanding Supporter of Support Staff is Annamarie Erickson, Automation Director for the Chicago Library System. The award is presented annually for outstanding service to library support staff.
Ms. Erickson was selected for her dedicated work on behalf of support staff. A former director of the Library Technical Assistant Program at Wilbur Wright College (Illinois) she currently administrates programs that impact library support staff in Chicago and throughout Illinois.
She is a member of the Council on Library/Media Technicians, serving as Education Committee Chair. She is also a member of the American Library Association, Illinois Library Association and the Illinois school/Media Association. In addition, she serves as the Special Library Association Illinois Professional Development Chair and is a Newberry Library Associate. She also is on the Advisory Committee at Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education, building a virtual library for the students.
Ms Erickson recently delivered a paper at the Australian Library Technicians Conference. She has also made numerous presentations on topics from Support Staff Development programs to Library Education for the Paraprofessional and has helped in planning the Reaching Forward conferences held in Chicago.
For her efforts in supporting and encouraging support staff, she has been presented with the 1998 Outstanding Supporter of Support Staff Award.
